Support with weight loss can include practical structure, guidance and support when changing habits. A coach is not the right first step for everyone: medical risks, binge eating or complex problems require appropriate care.
What coaching can offer
Coaching can help you make your goal specific, recognise recurring difficult moments and build a plan that fits your work and social life.
The focus is on behaviour and implementation: shopping, meal routines, movement and evaluating what works. Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed.
Start with a realistic plan
Choose one or two habits you can repeat. Think of a regular lunch foundation, a prepared eating moment or two training anchors. A plan you can maintain for months is more valuable than a strict schedule for two weeks.
- Make your goal specific without an extreme deadline.
- Map your busiest eating and working moments.
- Plan a small change you can track.
- Evaluate behaviour and circumstances, not only your weight.
When other support is more appropriate
In cases of binge eating, loss of control, pregnancy, medication, diabetes, medical conditions or severe excess weight with health risks, first consult your GP and, if needed, a dietitian. The Netherlands Nutrition Centre recommends professional guidance in various risk situations.

Frequently asked questions
Can a personal trainer help with weight loss?
Training, general nutrition coaching and accountability can be part of a plan. They do not replace medical assessment, and weight loss is not guaranteed.
When should I see a dietitian?
For medical conditions, medication, pregnancy, binge eating, loss of control or complex nutrition questions, a dietitian or GP is more appropriate.
What is a good first step?
Map out one normal week and choose one habit you can adjust practically. Avoid a plan that only works when everything goes smoothly.
